Post Opiate Pain

Heroin, Pain Pills, Methadone are all opioids (aka opiates) and it just plain sucks or feels impossible to get off of any of them. Share about stopping, detox, or the desire to stop any of these.

Post Opiate Pain

Postby Justjules13 » Fri Oct 25, 2013 11:12 am

I'm dealing with some weird shit right now. My mouth burns and hurts SO bad. I looked it up on the Internet (isn't that everyone does instead of going to a Dr?) and it's a real thing. Burning mouth syndrome.(BMS) Seems it hits women after menopause  and can go along with anxiety
Anyone else ever had this? Rum and cokes seem to lessen it and I've started drinking earlier and earlier in the day to lessen the pain. The pains really excruciating. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but this is crazy painful.
I've had these weird things happen before. The palms of my hands broke out in blisters and it was some weird "stress induced" thing.
Did opiates fuck me up for life? :banghead:

I do know anxiety can cause a lot of weird pains too...and that might be why the drinks help. I had similar reaction with this chest pain I been having...popped a .5 xanax and it mostly went away...so perhaps try concentrating on reducing your anxiety.

And yea, that's the first thing i do,....get on the web and research...same with any new meds. I usually throw away most prescriptions I get once i read the side effects!

I'll give you my standard disclaimer...exercise!! Try a long walk every day for starters. Because undoubtedly detoxing off opiates is a very stressful thing and it takes the body a long time to adjust...plus you quit smoking, and that exactly what my pulmonary doctor said about that...lots of stress to the body quitting and it takes 6 months or more he said to even out.

Feel better!!

Thanks Mano. It's really driving me nuts. I'm afraid to eat anything for fear of setting it off. I was in tears today because it hurt SO fucken bad.
I'm going to forse myself to walk a lot tomorrow and see if that helps at all. I feel so weak too. A glass of milk and rum and cokes today for meals :ogeez:
Thanks again.

It's been going on a couple months, but has gotten worse in the last couple weeks. My mouth feels fine when I wake up but starts burning after a couple hours...eating anything other than soft bland foods sets it on fire.
I'm going to the Dr. Monday or Tues if it's not better. Someone suggested cold grapes and that helped a bit.
Thanks for the suggestions and concern guys...

Not to be a wiseass but that can be a sign of a totally different issue. But lets not jump to conclusions, get it checked out. How are the doctors over there ?

The medical system is pretty good. I went to a Dr a couple yrs ago. A friend gave me the contact info for his "gentle dentist" yesterday. I think that's really my first step...but I'm terrified of dentists. I mean REALLY terrified...
Fortunately after three days of sheer agony, yesterday and today (so far) seem fairly painfree.
Thanks ;)

How is it today Jules? I feel so bad to hear you have this. I get cankers, but nothing on the scale you describe.

What do the doctors say? They can't just be saying live with it. I mean, it must be something you changed, a food, a detergent, anything like that you can think of?

I've been through hell and back with my teeth due to opiates and have just recently finished a 2 year long quest to get them back in line. I had to enroll in a study I found because what I needed done was so expensive. But finally, 2 years later I can chew like a normal person and I don't lock my jaw at night anymore. Sometimes I still bite my tongue chewing, but that's just because I'm still not used to it. It was awful, it was my molars so it never showed to other people, but my bite was totally off and chewing food was no fun at all.

Today and yesterday have been ok....so of corse I've put off going to the dentist. Yea, Cheryl, my teeth are in need of some major repairs. I've got a molar cracked in half and a loose one too.
I'd never heard of this "burning mouth Syndrome" either till I read the Wiki page. It's said to be caused by stress? I just can't imagine "stress" causing that kind of pain...but I had some weird hand blisters a couple yrs ago that was supposedly caused by stress too. Detox is pretty damn stressful after 12 yrs of methadone I guess. I'm glad I'm 6 months out now!
I'm really just starting to feel kinda normal....although I feel like I've aged ten yrs in the last 3.
How you doing Cheryl?

Stress can cause all kinds of pain....Do you know how you can tell if it's from stress? You can't, that's how real it is. And yes, detoxing is super stressful, plus the tension from detoxing causes all kinds of muscle aches and issues like restless legs.

Burning mouth syndrome is often associated with thrush, unusual mouth and gut flora and any number of synergistically associated concerns. Most people get it after steroid use but I can see opiate being a source as well.
I would first work with diluted apple cider vinegar and maybe a monolaurin product. Don't use mouthwashes whatever you do.
Can make this much worse..

It seemed attached to stress...Stress can do a lot of weird things especially after decades on opiates and being numb. I don't know if single person that's gotten off of years of opiate use and not had some weird stuff crop up.
