How long did you suffer before you took an opiate?

I'd fly to Thailand, catch a bus to the slums of Cambodia, where I'd switch over to China white for a month or 2, then go back to Thailand, and stay at a Buddhist Temple and detox with the monks, puking out the poison with help from their herbal brew (kratom).

LMFAO, that sounds like some shit I would think up. I feel like my brain works against me in that way sometimes. But its a good thing that I'm too broke to do that because when I first found out what getting off subs was going to be like I started thinking "why the hell dont I just get back on H?? Then the withdrawal is shorter and I could actually go to detox." Then I had drug dreams for like a week for the first time in years. I just keep telling myself that is the wrong direction to go in. I hope I can hang on to that mentality. And I cant imagine getting off 120mg in county! I had a friend who said he went into jail on that dose and didnt get a good nights sleep for 11 months!!

Well thats all, just want to get used to posting and start getting to know people.

Hi Ryan-

It's crazy what we will try, to avoid withdrawal.

Long acting opiates are pure hell to cold turkey, but when you taper down low enough, that your miserable anyway, just jump and get it over with. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how mild withdrawal is compared to dope-

Only problem is, it takes a long ass time to start sleeping again. And the twitchy mental/emotional trip sucks...
Especially if you spent the better part of a decade on opiates.

BUT-

The really hard part, is the first year or 2 AFTER the detox...

Ha Ha, yeah its crazy where my mind can go sometimes. ESPECIALLY, when it comes to either getting a fix or kicking a habit. But yeah im down to 1mg a day and i dont sleep great but im definitely not feeling that bad at all besides the days depression convinces me im a worthless piece of shit. but i do my best to not stay there too long. Nice to meet ya though, seems like we think a like. later,

Hey, that's great Ryan-

Keep on doing what your doing

Your young enough, you might get lucky and skate off without much trouble at all.

It takes us old folks a lot longer to heal up after a detox for some reason... (I'm probably your dad's age)

Yep, I totally agree that you have your age on your side Ryan. The younger you are, the faster your brain seems to bounce back. It only gets harder. You DON'T want to be on your 50s looking back. You seem to really understand addiction and what your up against. I think Stepper is right, you might not have the long lasting problums ome of us face. You'll only know when you try!

Thanks guys, I really hope I can get this now. I have big ambitions and there are a lot of things I want to do. I just want to start my life already. I feel like it has been on hold this whole time even though I needed to go through these things to make myself stronger and to learn about who I am.
I just wish I would have done this in the summer because then I would just stay outside and not stop moving all day. Its going to be hard not to sit still when Im stuck at the house most of the time
Thanks emily, I try to tell myself that and I believe it most days. But Ill tell you one thing I noticed the other day, its a lot easier to look at myself in the mirror and say im worthless than to say im not. I learned from a quy a while back about looking at yourself in the mirror to help cut through your own BS. And for whatever reason when I do that the guy looking back excepts the fact that Im worthless at lot fast than the latter. But im hoping this change in my life will help me become who I really am so I can learn to think differently.

But if you guys think my age might make a difference maybe trying to taper longer than I want will be worth doing as long as im still feeling okay.
-PEACE

I used to feel pretty useless looking in the mirror, when I was spending all my days nodding out, and wandering around stoned in an opiate stupor.

Your tapering off maintenance Ryan-

It's a big accomplishment, and you'll start feeling better about yourself as you make more progress.

The fact that you are committed to the taper should give you some good self esteem...you also put more time between doses & are using SS as a support (i think real life support is important also)..so when you look in the mirror i hope you can see a changing face reflecting back.
We can't change the past (as much as i wish i could about some things) so don't go there..set a goal for when you are clean because you need something to reach for after you are done with the jump off sub.

Was just reading over the last few messages and I wanted to say for the most part im starting to feel better even though Im not off it yet. Im down to .125mgs and even though some days are better than others, for the most part I feel like things are starting to look up. I know I still have the toughest part ahead of me. but getting a glimpse of the great things that I could achieve and experience once Im on the other side are really good motivations to make it there. I have been working on my self esteem and its amazing how much just thinking positive can actually lead to legitimately feeling that way. If I can just get my life together before our country completely goes to hell I think Ill be on track to really transforming myself, haha.

I can't even imagine...
I couldn't hack it off 10mg of meth...the headaches were horrendous..(hence the sub route)

I have a friend that I go to school with and one day we were out on a smoke break that turned into a 15 minute conversation when she saw the old track mark scars on my arms. I told her I have been on suboxone for my pill/heroin addiction and have been taking suboxone for 6 months now and was currently on a taper. She said that she and her husband both had the same drug addiction as me and both sought suboxone therapy to quit the drugs. She said that they both felt that they were still craving drugs and feeling like crap on the sub, so after two months on suboxone they switched to methadone. She said that in the beginnig they were having to drive 35 minutes one way to Nashville every morning to get there doses and then 35 minutes back. But she said it was worth it because when she was using she'd make up to three trips a day to Nashville. She has been on methadone maintenance for 18 months and has finally gotten to the point where she only has to go pick up her pills 1 x a week. On the flip side of that success story I knew a girl who had been on methadone for six years and I watched her detox from them. she was sick for 3 straight weeks and then suffered severe sparratic PAWS for over a year. When I saw her detoxing from the methadone it made my detox from 2 grams a day of heroin look painless and easy. I have never seen anyone in so much pain and agony in my life. Methadone is serious stuff. If you are going to take it I suggest taking AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE FOR AS SHORT OF A TIME AS POSSIBLE. Best of luck to you! :)

No I have not. I am not judging in any way but in my opinion, I am on suboxone as a way of overcoming my codeine (opiate) addiction. I, eventually would like to be drug free. On the other hand, I
Haven't yet been through suboxone withdrawal to truly know how 'hard' it is. I have heard different things from different people. For me, I have a four-year old daughter to look after as well as my masters to study so I'll taper slowly in order to make the withdrawal affects as minimal as possible. My daughter comes first n I neglected her n even my own personal hygeine through codeine withdrwal. I am TERRIFIED of even reducing off suboxone so no---I could not go to methadone. But please know that this is based on MY OWN OPINION N EXPERIENCE NOT as a judgement to anyone else.

People have to do what feels best for THEM! I
Have talked to people (via forums) who have transformed from methadone to suboxone.

All the best, ok n I hope that I have not offended you or anyone else in any way,
Evey x

Personally I feel that everyone is different. When I was first put on 8 mg suboxone the emptiness of the normality that came with it was overwhelming - so when my 4-year old was in bed I'd be drinking 1-2 bottles of wine to fill the void. I still do it now n have lost a dear friend as under the influence i've said stuff I do not remember or cannot take back. I craved codeine like mad - the suboxone helped but the cravings were INTENSE. HOWEVER, as suboxone blocks the euphoric feeling 'the high,' I remember it less n less n look back at anniversaries of bad things that happened like ODing. Try to ride out those cravings n they'll get less n less. Suboxone makes the cravings less in intensity, in my opinion, but you will get there I PROMISE YOU. The other day I went into Boots (a shopping place including a pharmacy n although, I obviously thought of codeine---I was able to purchase hair dye (pink lol) n walk out without purchasing codeine products. I was so very proud of my self.

Sorry---I mentioned myself there but that's the only way I can help by mentioning my own personal experiencr.
Obviously everyone's experience is different n I truly wish you all the very best,
Evey xxxxx

I was on sub for 4&1/2 years from 07-2011 & did ibogaine in Mexico to get off. Fast forward the last couple of years & i've been using sub as little as possible between using other opiates. About a month ago I thought I'd just accept the fact that I was hopeless & decided to get on methadone. I did but after a week on the shit I decided it was only gonna get worse if I continued so after this past memorial day weekend I just didn't go back. After stopping I have gone through mainly just depression but nothing like I did 14 years ago coming off methadone. So even though I didn't plan to use methadone to get off sub it seems to have actually helped since I only used it for 7 days. Just got lucky I guess.

What can you do to stay off all of it. Have you a plan for that?

Glad it worked out! I would have ended up with physical crap too. Methadone is my enemy.

I don't know what I can do to stay clean. My longest stretch was over 14 years not using anything & I was very involved in AA & NA. I've tried that route numerous times since but I just can't accept the god stuff anymore. I've even managed to not use several years in a row on my own at times. It's just been a love/hate relationship with opiates since I was 15 & I'm now 58. I'll continue to fight as long as I'm breathing.

Damn....I'm 58 too. I can't take the god shit either......Well, just stay in the mix. Do things with people you can tolerate....don't isolate. I don't live close to a city that has a secular recovery group. Do you?
