What to do, what to do, right? Brain games!
They improve cognitive function and they are fun. Plenty of sites on the web. My fav are the ones on AARP. Free and you can choose your level of difficulty. And best of all, they dont require a long attention span, like a movie or reading a book.

Welp, I sure did walk into that one big time .... :o

I tend to do that almost every day. Last night my wife asked if I could get something for her out of our spare bedroom. Like a nice husband, I go get it and come back and ask her: " Where do you want it?" ... She just gave me this look with a sly smile: ... I then say "not again!", then she does her innocent act: "What? You have a dirty mind."

Thanks for explaining. (I think).

1. Hunt for blobs.
“I’m very aware tat I look silly staring at my feet in the middle of downtown Seattle drawing a sidewalk crack, but I’m willing to suffer the odd looks: Blob hunting is fun!”

Grab a pen and paper, and go outside.
Look down at the ground. You might see everything from dried leaves to cracks in the sidewalk to oil stains, she said.
Pick a shape – a.k.a a blob – that you’d like to draw. And sketch it.
Go back inside and turn the paper in all different directions. Then wherever you like on your blob, add eyes, fur and a tail.

2. Draw objects with your index finger.

Pick any object, whether it’s a tree, car, lamp or couch. Then close one eye. Use your index finger to “draw” along the edges of the object. And repeat.

3. Close your eyes while creating.

Grab a pen and piece of paper. Close your eyes, and draw an elephant. “Think trunk, ears, tail, etc.,” Next, still keeping your eyes closed, draw a bird on the elephant’s trunk. Finally, draw a circus stand – and then open your eyes.

4. Build a bicycle.

Again, grab a pen and piece of paper. Start drawing a bicycle – but use only one line. Don’t lift your pen until you’ve sketched the entire bike. “Think loops; it should LOOK like it was done with one curvy line. As you sketch swiftly, let your subconscious steer you. Then when you’re done with your first drawing, do it three more times.

Re: Journaling...something I ignore but should do.

Postby Jem » Sat May 16, 2015 10:47 am

[quote="cheeps"]Here are some journaling ideas....no, I don't think you have to do them all!! Just pick on and find a notebook. Be honest.

My favorite way to spend the day is…
Reading, fishing, camping, skiing, with my sisters and nephews/nieces, shopping

If I could talk to my teenage self, the one thing I would say is…
Everything you do matters and will stay with you for the rest of your life, once you achieve your dreams don't ever give them up for anyone, family is important but making the life you life you love and protecting it are THE most important things in life.

The two moments I’ll never forget in my life are… Describe them in great detail, and what makes them so unforgettable.
Getting my dream job. I loved my life and going to work. I felt so good about myself and was the happiest I've ever been.
Spending long fun days with my sisters. It's the most relaxed I ever feel and love the feeling of shared history and sense of humor. I don't even have to say anything for them to know what I'm thinking or what's so funny.

The words I’d like to live by are…
"The truly courageous and powerful never have to prove it. It is always shown in their actions."
--Adam Brown

I couldn’t imagine living without…
Hope

When I’m in pain — physical or emotional — the kindest thing I can do for myself is…
Make a plan of action to resolve it.

Make a list of the people in your life who genuinely support you, and who you can genuinely trust. (Then make time to hang out with them.)
My sisters

What does unconditional love look like for you?
Being allowed to live my own life and being supported in doing so. Common or compromised goals that are carried out.Accepting mistakes and working together to fix them without it being held against me or used as an excuse to do something selfish.

I really wish others knew this about me…
I only really talk when I have something useful to say. It's not that I don't want to talk to you, it's just that I don't like making pointless conversation.

Name what is enough for you.
A career I love

If my body could talk, it would say…
What the f*ck happened

That's all I have time for right now. Will finish the rest soon. Thanks Cheeps!!

Caulking.....

Choose the Right Caulk
Caulk that keeps air and water out over time is a necessity when sealing around the home. For a long-lasting seal, choose permanently waterproof, flexible, shrink-/crack-proof 100 percent silicone. Avoid using acrylic caulk, which can shrink and crack over time. Air and water can seep through gaps left by cracked caulk. Those leaks can lead to water damage, mold growth, and higher energy bills. Look for GE Silicone II* Window & Door or Kitchen & Bath, or, if you are painting, try GE Silicone II* Paintable Silicone.

Clean the Surface
Remove old caulk, dirt, and loose particles with a caulk-removing tool, or a wire brush for concrete and masonry applications, and wipe clean with a cloth. Apply masking tape to either side of the joint to create a straight edge. (Remove immediately after caulk application.) If you do not want to deal with the hassle of taping, GE Caulk Smoother* can be an easy alternative.

Prepare the Tube and Seal
Cut the nozzle to desired bead size. Pierce the inner seal with a stiff wire or other similar object. Insert cartridge into caulking gun. Seal around unsightly cracks or spaces inside and outside the home. If using a caulk gun, squeeze with even, consistent pressure to control the rate at which the caulk leaves the tube.

Smooth the Caulk Seal
Use your finger or a wet caulk-smoothing tool within two to five minutes of application. GE Caulk Smoother is a great tool to help achieve a smooth, clean bead of caulk.

Store the Tube and Clean
Squeeze the caulk until it's barely coming out of the tube. Replace the cap, or use a nail in the tube opening. Wipe hands with a dry cloth before washing with soap and water. To clean the area around the caulk, use mineral spirits for silicone caulk, and soap and water for acrylic.

Make sure doors and windows are closing securely and do not need to be rehung.
If you plan to paint the exterior of the window or door frame, make sure the caulk you use also can be painted, or that the color caulk will be compatible with surrounding materials.
To get the tube started and test the flow, hold the caulk gun over a garbage can and apply pressure on the trigger. Get comfortable with using the gun before you start your job.

Swab the joint with rubbing alcohol to remove soap scum, body oils, and other residue. Rubbing alcohol dries quickly and leaves the surfaces impeccably clean so the new caulking will adhere well.
When caulking a bathtub, fill it with water. You might even want to get into the tub wearing tall boots. This will pull the tub to the furthest distance from the wall. Apply a fresh bead of silicone sealant to the joint.
If you are caulking a shower stall, work from the inside out. Do the inside seams before the external ones so you do not brush up against any uncured caulk and create extra work or a mess.

Your home should be tested twice a year (once in the spring and again in the winter) to see if you are protected from energy loss, pollution, pests, and moisture. If you find gaps and cracks, be sure to seal—it's as easy as five simple steps.

Test #1: The dollar bill test: Place a dollar bill between the doorjamb or between the window sash and sill. With the door or window closed, attempt to remove the dollar bill. If it slides out easily, you are losing energy.
Test #2: The flashlight test: Shine a flashlight around the edges of your door at night. If you can see light from the other side, you're losing energy.
Test #3: The moist hand test: Pass a moist hand around the edge of your doors and windows. Where you feel a draft, you are losing energy. This test works best on cold, windy days.

So how do you think more creatively? Here are six solid starting points:

Shut up and Listen
Ambient noise can be a great inspiration, says Jonah Lehrer, author of Imagine: How Creativity Works. The sounds of New York City were the inspiration behind the game-changing music of the Talking Heads, for example. It’s all about the right level of noise. According to a study in the Journal of Consumer Research, people working in a level of noise equal to what you’d hear in a coffee shop came up with more innovative solutions to tough problems.

Keep Barreling Through
When facing a difficult problem, the left side of your brain goes to work looking for the most logical answer. When one isn’t readily apparent, you’ll reach the frustration phase, finds research in Psychological Science. That’s when you’ll want to quit. Don’t—the frustration signals it’s time to switch to the right side of the brain and consider the problem from a creative perspective. The switch from left to right is what causes a “eureka” moment.

Have the Blues
Studies show the color blue calls to mind peace, tranquility, and open space. You probably can't repaint your office, but a blue picture could help you think more creatively. But steer clear of one color: According to a study from the University of British Colombia, red rooms make people think about danger, mistakes, and caution.

Talk to Someone New
Pixar offers improv classes to all employees from security guards to executives, has centralized bathrooms, and makes it a point to have animators working on technical scenes sit near actual computer scientists. Why? Diverse groups spark creativity. Start by brainstorming on your own, then run your ideas past someone who isn’t involved and can give you a fresh perspective, like your girlfriend or a friend in a different field.

Think Like Your Kid
As parts of your brain mature, you stop thinking about creating things and focus more on what people will say about your creation. Per a study cited in Imagine, people came up with twice as many creative solutions to problems when instructed to pretend they were 7 years old and write an essay about what they would do with a day off from school. Instead of planning your dream day, take a piece of paper, cut it in half and focus on bringing the two halves together on your desk. Sounds silly? Sure. But it works. Research shows the literal act of “putting two and two together” promotes creative problem-solving.

Take a Hike
If you’re in a positive mood—not stomping around your office in cranky rage—your brain is more likely to think creatively, shows research in Psychological Science. If you’re stuck in your cube, try listening to a peppy Mozart piece—researchers found this was the most effective mood lifter.

If you have to be at work....this will help you look better....

These five tricks are scientifically proven to boost your focus and push productivity—and can all be done without leaving your desk.

Turn up the tunes
The right level of noise can help foster creativity and productivity, according to a 2012 study in the Journal of Consumer Research. Unlike louder or softer sounds, moderate levels at 70 decibels—like a TV in the background—is just distracting enough to help you think at a more abstract level, enhancing creativity, explains study author Ravi Mehta, Ph.D. Check out Focus@Will (focusatwill.com), a music service specifically crafted to enhance and maintain concentration.

Organize your desk
Cleaning not only relieves stress, but it also de-clutters your brain: When Princeton researchers looked at task performance in organized versus chaotic environments, they found that physical clutter in your surroundings competes for your attention, decreases your performance, and increases your stress.

Turn to YouTube
What do Keyboard Cat and Aziz Ansari have in common? Surprisingly, both will boost your speed and accuracy: After watching a stand-up comedy video, participants in a U.K. and German study completed 10 to 12 percent more math problems in a timed test than neutral video-watchers. Researchers from Hiroshima University, meanwhile, found when prompted with “cute” photos, people were more likely to feel protective and proceed with caution, allowing them to work faster and make fewer mistakes.

Turn up the heat
A study in HVAC&R Research found that employees are most productive when the thermostat is cranked to 76 degrees (most offices are set at 70-72). Colder temperatures mean less dexterity in your hands, making it physically harder to fly across the keyboard, and also encourages distraction—particularly toward activities that may generate more body heat.

Mind your mind
Meditation can improve your concentration, but it’s also time-consuming. Try its less-imposing cousin, mindfulness: A UC Santa Barbara study found people who practiced mindfulness had better concentration, working memory, and accuracy on tests than those with no training in the matter. “Mindfulness is about being fully present in everything you do." When you eat, appreciate the flavors; when you drive, bring all your awareness to the act itself—simple efforts to be conscious become habit and help our mind let go of distraction easier when it counts.

I like these posts Cheeps (and not just the money shots posts :D ), so thanks for putting them up. I want to write again so bad, and I recently read some of my old shit, and I dug it and could picture enjoying the process of finishing some stories, but I..just..can't..bring..myself..to..start..typing.

It's like I have a wall between me and the keyboard, and I know I could bust through and start writing again, but I just don't.

It will come.....remember how I told you I can't read during detox? But I can write....So it's the same duh shit but ours is backwards. I don't write much after detox at all and eventually start reading....

So rest assured...It's just part of the process and it resolved for me and so many others....this is the other side shit part in some ways....this healing phase sometimes plateaus....So acquire the patience mode again. It is my belief this stage is the most important in that true healing is happening....relish it. Celebrate it. Open up to people you trust, accept congratulations....you have really done something here. The process just isn't finished.

Free again threads addresses this....It took him awhile and my friend is very impatient but he sums it up well and I'm so proud of him and the core group from two years ago, Rc, Don pisto, Kurdt, turbo, free again, yup, Neils, ameary2, iwantout....I'm sure I missed three or four others. They all are so cool.

Whoa, kinda weird, but I made that last post awhile back and it seems to say I made it today. I've actually been writing lately, which is good. I got sick of my goddamn whining... 'Boo hoo, I can't write without drugs, waaah' ' Buncha bull shit. I mean, either I do it or I don't, right? So I do it. I am starting slowly, but doing it again. Not sure why it says may 27 for that post though. forum fuckery i suppose.
